1. Our Patient Participation Group (PPG) is now up and running.  We are due to hold our third meeting on 3rd April with a speaker in attendance.  For more information please see our dedicated PPG section on this website which includes minutes of meetings, our newsletters and practice surveys.
  2.   Information regarding our appointment system is located in our porch area.  We offer all our patients 'pre-bookable' routine appointments - these appointments are available to book up to 1 month ahead.  Every doctor has a set amount of pre-bookable slots open every day to all patients. 'On the day' appointments - available to our patients if you contact us any time between 8:30am - 9:00am.  You will be offered an appointment to see 1 of the doctors at practice - if demand for 1 doctor is high you will be offered another doctor.  Please be advised that you are registered at The Birches Practice and not with 1 individual doctor. 'Emergency' appointments - if you telephone after 9:00am and all the appointments for the day have been filled, you will need to inform the Receptionist of the medical emergency and they will speak to the doctor on your behalf.
  3.   Please be advised that 1 appointment = 1 patient = 1 medical problem.  If you are still waiting to be seen it could be that the previous patients have not followed this request.  Our doctors do not plan to run late or enjoy keeping you waiting.
  4.   It is essential that we have UP TO DATE information for all our patients - such as full name, correct address and telephone numbers - land line and mobile.  This information enables you to be quickly and accurately identified by healthcare professionals across the NHS to match you with your correct medical details.  Holding the correct contact details will also ensure that we can contact you with any important health information should the need arise.  Please let our Reception staff know if any of your details have changed.  Thank you for your co-operation.
  5. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you have effectively missed your appointment and the clinician may well have started to see another patient.  The Reception staff may ask the clinician if you can still be seen. If an appointment slot becomes avaliable you will be fitted in otherwise you may have to wait until the end of the entire surgery. However if the clinician is fully booked you may have to re-book the appointment for another day.
  6.   Contraception/HRT medication - please ensure that you contact us BEFORE you run out of your medication.  As soon as you start the last month of your medication, contact us for your blood pressure appointment with one of our nurses.  Everyone on HRT or the contraceptive pill needs to be seen every 12 months for this appointment.
  7.  The Out of Hours contact number for our patients for when The Birches Medical Practice is closed are:- 0300 1 30 30 40.  The Out of Hours Centre (Harmoni) is based in Warwick.  Out Of Hours covers the practice when we are closed from 6:30pm - 8:00am Monday to Friday and all weekend.  Other options for our patients are:- 999 for medical emergencies ONLY, 'The Walk In Centre' at Solihull Hospital which is open 8:00am - 8:00pm Monday - Sunday phone number is 0121 709 7711 and NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 for medical advice.
  8.   Please note that we have recently had security cameras installed in the Reception area.  Your confidentiality will of course be maintained as always but please be aware that any incidents that occur at Reception will be captured both on video and audio.
  9.   We offer a free delivery service to all our patients over the age of 60, in particular to those of our patients who have difficulty in getting to the surgery either due to transport issues or medical needs.  Please enquire at Reception or telephone us for further details regarding our Delivery Service.
  10.   When booking an appointment for your holiday vaccinations you must give us AT LEAST 6 weeks notice prior to travelling.  This is to ensure that the vaccinations you need have time within your system to become effective and provide you with the neceassary cover.  We also need to find avaliable nursing time as each appointment takes at least 20 minutes per patient.  If you phone us with less than 6 weeks to go before you travel,  you will  be asked to attend a private medical clinic for your vaccinations. If you are registered with us as a Temporary Patient we will not be able to offer you this service.

Surgery opening times

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 6:30pm

Surgeries operate by appointment. Appointments are offered each day for the doctors between 8:30am and 9:00am. Patients who phone during this time requesting an 'on the day' appointment will be offered an appointment at some point during the day with a doctor at the practice.

Emergency appointments are available throughout the day. Only request an emergency appointment if you truly have a medical emergency. The reception staff will ask questions relating to the emergency to inform the doctor.

We also offer routine appointments for all doctors to book up to one month ahead. Appointments on a Monday are not bookable in advance.

If for any reason you are unable to attend for your appointment please advise us as soon as possible so that we can free up the appointment for other patients. We have a variety of clinic types and sessions, including morning, afternoon and evening surgeries. The receptionists may ask you why you are attending to book you in with the most appropriate staff member.

Our Nurses appointments are avaliable every morning along with Monday, Tuesday and Friday evenings.  Our Health Care Assistant appointments are avaliable Monday - Thursday mornings.

The surgery is closed during Bank Holidays.
